Growing up in a single-parent household and later finding support in a foster home during high school shaped my understanding of resilience and community. These early experiences showed me how a strong public school system can change lives. As a proud graduate of Eldorado High School in 1997, part of the Clark County School District (CCSD), I have dedicated nearly thirty years to giving back to the schools that gave me so much.

From Custodian to Director: A Career Built on Commitment
I began my career in CCSD in 1998 as a temporary custodian. This role gave me a unique perspective on the daily needs of schools. I worked to keep classrooms and hallways safe and functional, understanding that a clean, secure environment is essential for learning. Over time, I took on roles coaching and mentoring students and staff, which deepened my connection to the community and the district’s mission.
My journey continued as I moved into leadership positions, eventually becoming the Director of Facilities. Today, I oversee one of the largest and most complex school district operations in the nation. This role involves managing maintenance, safety, and infrastructure to ensure every school is a welcoming place where students can focus on learning.
The Importance of Safe and Welcoming Schools
Safe, welcoming schools are the foundation of student success. When students feel secure and supported, they can focus on their education and personal growth. My experience has shown me that this environment requires more than just physical safety; it also means fostering respect and inclusion among students and staff.
For example, during my time coaching students, I saw firsthand how mentorship can build confidence and open doors. Supporting students beyond academics helps them navigate challenges and discover their strengths. This holistic approach is vital for creating schools where every student can thrive.

Supporting Diverse Paths to Success
My family’s experience highlights the importance of offering students real choices. My oldest daughter chose a career in the trades, proving that college is not the only path to success. My middle child is pursuing the arts at NYU’s Tisch School, while my youngest is still exploring his options in high school.
This diversity of paths shows that schools must provide a range of opportunities, from college preparation to vocational training and local careers. Supporting these options helps students find their passion and build fulfilling futures.
Community Engagement Beyond the Classroom
My work extends beyond the school district. I run a small business and contribute to local pedestrian and bicycle safety initiatives. Serving on a state board and collaborating with community groups allows me to help make public spaces safer and more accessible for everyone.
These efforts reflect my belief that education and community support go hand in hand. When neighborhoods are safe and welcoming, students and families feel more connected and supported.

Why I’m Running for the School Board
I am running for the CCSD school board because I want to build on what works and address what needs improvement. My experience growing up in the system and building a career here gives me a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our schools.
I believe in schools where every student can succeed, every staff member feels valued, and every family sees their child’s potential realized. By focusing on safe environments, diverse educational paths, and strong community connections, we can create schools that serve all students well.
Moving Forward Together
Our schools are more than buildings; they are places where futures are shaped. My journey from student to director and community advocate shows the power of dedication and support. Together, we can ensure that every student in CCSD has the chance to thrive.
